False Teeth (Dentures)

False teeth are a way of replacing missing teeth. Many different types of dentures exist. Some examples are acrylic dentures, metal dentures, patented snap on smile dentures and flexible dentures called valplast dentures.

At Dental On Park we have had good success with all of these dentures, choosing a different type of denture based on the individual patients condition and their preference.

Below is a short description on the above mentioned dentures. If you would like more information give us a call or book an appointment with one of our experienced dentists!
Acrylic Dentres

Acrylic Dentures are probably the oldest type of dentures in the market. We sometimes make acrylic dentures as temporary dentures before implant restoration. They are also good as immediate dentures as they are more easily relined and adjusted than other types of dentures.

The problem with acrylic is that it’s not very strong compared to metal-based dentures and other newer materials on the market. A weaker material means greater thickness is required. Hence, acrylic dentures tend to be thick and bulky. Acrylic is a stable material. However, it does undergo some dimensional changes during processing. Hence, acrylic dentures tend not to fit so well. Quite a bit of adjustment is often needed when the dentist issues the final denture.

Most acrylic partial dentures need metal clasps to help them hold on to the remaining teeth. These are usually stainless steel wires. If they are visible, they may affect aesthetics.

Metal dentures are usually smaller than plastic dentures and do not fully cover the roof of the mouth as plastic dentures do. As a result of the roof of the mouth being left uncovered, this improves the taste sensation for the denture wearer, so the patient can taste foods better than if the roof of the mouth was fully covered.

In addition, the durable nature of the metal appliances means that they are less likely to break or bend out of shape than a number of their more fragile plastic denture alternatives. The fact that they are flexible may prove to be beneficial as a result of the changing shape of the mouth.

Snap-On Smile is a great suitable partial denture. So it is good for people with some missing teeth that would like to have a cosmetic makeover at the same time. Getting a Snap-On Smile simply requires two, short, painless visits with no drilling, no shots and no change in tooth structure.
It is an excellent choice for:

  • Gaps, crooked , stained or missing teeth
  • Those who are not candidates for bridges or implants
  • Anyone who would like a Hollywood smile

Flexible Valplast Denture

Removable partial dentures can be more comfortable if flexible. The innovation of the Valplast Flexible Partial allows constant movement and flexibility in your mouth. This is the underlying thinking behind Valplast’s flexible, removable partial denture. The flexibility, combined with strength and light weight, provides comfort and great looks!
