Tooth Extraction
Despite best intentions, sometimes a tooth extraction is necessary. In this appointment, we will take an xray of your tooth to review its root shape, angle, and length. This is vital in guiding us on how to best remove the tooth. We’ll use anaesthetic so you won’t feel a thing. We can also sedate you either by prescribing you relative analgesia, giving you nitrous oxide (happy gas), or organising the extraction under general anaesthetic – whichever option best suits. Routine Extraction
This is the most common type of extraction. No bone removal or sutures will be required.
Surgical Extraction
A surgical tooth extraction is required if the tooth is badly broken down and needs removal in multiple pieces. Bone removal with sutures may be necessary.

Emergency Appointments
We always prefer to extract a painful tooth on the same day. However, sometimes this isn’t possible. If this is the case, we’ll prescribe antibiotics and book a suitable time to get the tooth out before the pain returns.
Post Treatment Care
Painkillers are necessary – expect some pain for 3 weeks. This pain is mostly well controlled. Sometimes we will also prescribe you antibiotics. Some people will experience swelling, so we recommend that treatment be performed when you can have a couple of days of rest. You will need to do salt water rinses for a few days. A factsheet on post-treatment care will be provided at the appointment.
